Peoples Bank & Trust Donates to Waverly American Legion

Peoples Bank recently made a one thousand dollar donation to be shared by American Legion Post 262, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 262, the local Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Building Fund. In addition to supporting veteran’s organizations such as Quincy Veterans Home, the Honor Flight organization and the Homeless veterans’ organization in Springfield, donations such as this one help all three organizations continue their support of local projects and organizations.

The Sons and the Auxiliary both support the Legion by helping to pay ongoing building utilities and providing time and help to the Legion Fish Dinners and building benefits. The Sons provide “Santa” for community young people and hold several fund raisers throughout the year to enable them to assist with community projects and benefits.

The Auxiliary provides support to the local library, the Junior Woman’s Club, the local food bank and many other projects, fund raisers and benefits initiated by our local organizations. Both the Sons and the Auxiliary participate and assist the Legion in providing military funerals for deceased veterans. Among other community projects, the Legion provides a scholarship for a graduating senior each year, presents Legion medals and certificates to the graduating seniors selected by the faculty and student body of our local high school and this year provided a scholarship for a young man to attend state police camp.

While continuing to raise funds for a new building, all three organizations provide money, time and support for as many community projects and fund raisers as they can. Although originally founded to support veterans and their families, the three organizations strive to help and support all community organizations and projects. Members of the Sons organization and the local Auxiliary unit have made it possible for our local American Legion Post to survive and prosper while working to be valuable organizational members of our community.
