Peoples Bank Donates to AMVETS to Replace State Flags

It warms the heart and makes one feel very proud when one drives around the corner of Park and Webster Streets in Taylorville and sees all the State Flags waving in the breeze. Bill Easley, an AMVET, was integral in starting the Veteran’s Park in 1999. The flags that fly so proudly are the original flags. Over the years some have become faded and torn and a good number of the flags desperately need to be replaced. Continuing on with the work that was started by Bill Ealey 20 years ago, AMVETS Life Member, Doug Maxheimer, has assessed the condition of the flags and set out the task of asking for help with the cost to replace them. Peoples Bank is honored and proud to help with this project. Through the combined donations of Peoples Bank & Trust, Carlinville National Bank, Taylorville Community Credit Union, First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust, the generous personal donations from several individuals, and Steve Millings repairing the flag boxes, new flags have been ordered to replace those that are worn and torn just in time for Armed Forces Day, May 18.
